Hell in Hollywood * 17 (Joe's POV) Miley came back and told me it was my turn to go in. I started to get really nervous, what if Demi didn't wake up and she stayed in a coma? I couldn't let that happen, she has to wake up. I entered her hospital room, which was pretty nice, and sat down at the chair right beside her bed. I held her hand and traced against the hot pink cast around her arm, all the way up to her elbow. I gently lifted her arm and pressed my lips to each of her fingers. "Please wake up, Dem. Please." I begged, placing her hand back beside her on the bed, but maintaining my gentle grasp on it. "I'm sorry..for everything. I shouldn't have made you feel bad without letting you explain..I shouldn't have made you feel bad regardless. I care about you so much, more than just a boss..you're my best friend. My only real friend. And I love you. Please wake up." I rested my head in my arms and listened to Demi's quiet breathing, with help from the ventilator. The sound of beeping woke me up in a frenzy, but it was just the doctor's running some tests on Demi. I looked at the clock..I had slept for almost three hours. I wonder if Miley's still here? Fun kart / mobility kart.

Student project to build a fun kart that can be used by the disabled. (May 2010.) Designed so that the steering can be done by rocking one's body sideways in the seat. NO arm or leg use required. Motor electronically controlled. This prototype had 3 switches mounted on an arm rest, but these could be placed anywhere, such as near the top of the seat so being controlled by head movement. It worked amazingly well! Great fun and *very* easy to control and use.

"Living with Muscular Dystrophy" by Bryan Arnold

Bryan Arnold of Anchorage, Alaska, educates people about his degenerative disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). During his junior year of high school, he produced this movie about living with DMD. It is now shown in schools statewide and Bryan hopes to extend his advocacy reach beyond Alaska to the rest of the country. Because of his work, Bryan received a 2009 Yes I Can! Award (self-advocacy category) from the Council for Exceptional Children. The award was presented to him on April 3 at the CEC 2009 Convention & Expo in Seattle.
